Siiiigh, I just have so many feelings about how protective Bal is over his brother and the fact that he is one of the few characters (Rachael being the other) to actually stand up to the Winchesters for Castiel’s sake.
He was willing to get dragged right back into this war he had only just gotten away from and pawn off all his protection to help Castiel win (when there was already a huge chance he wouldn’t anyway) simply because Castiel asked him to. And that’s everything Dean never did. He never trusted Castiel to do what was right and Bal may have been reluctant, but the only time he stepped in to go against Castiel’s wishes was when it was made clear that Cas might get hurt.
AND HE WAS SO FUCKING PISSED ABOUT IT. You could see in his body language and hear it in the tone of his voice just how agitated he was with Cas for this whole Purgatory plan, and it was only when Cas made it clear he had no other choice, that Bal went against him. He went to the Winchesters to try and stop Cas from killing himself.
I DON’T SEE HOW SOMEONE WHO IS WILLING TO SACRIFICE EVERY OUNCE OF PROTECTION FOR HIS LITTLE BROTHER’S SAKE AND THEN GOES AND ASSISTS TWO PEOPLE WHOM HE DOES NOT LIKE AT ALL TO TRY AND SAVE HIS BROTHER AGAIN IS CONSTRUED AS ‘OH LOL, I LIKE TO DRINK AND PARTY AND FUCK MY WAY THROUGH A ROOM AND I HAVE NO FUCKS TO GIVE ABOUT CAS AT ALL’ or alternately “I am a rude, controlling dick that likes to cheat on my boyfriend and gets jealous when he makes other friends.”

#i mean….i thought it was pretty obvious that balthazar’s problem with the whole thing was that cas was going to hurt himself #it was the winchesters that wanted to stop cas to ~save the worldd!!1!~ #balthazar just wanted to make sure cas didn’t get himself killed #pretty sure if he cared that much about the planet he wouldn’t have ran off from the war #and that’s not a comment against balthazar #bc he was right; the fighting will never stop #so yes he was just trying to protect cas #but unfortunately cas didn’t see it that way #thought balthazar had betrayed him and left him like dean and sam and bobby #and that was the thing that BROKE cas #also people need to stop using bathazar’s death as reason to hate cas #bc it pisses me the fuck off #and i’m pretty sure it would piss balthazar the fuck off too
